LHC bars PTI PAT from unconstitutional long march sit in

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has barred the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) from launching an ‘unconstitutional’ Azadi March and Inquilab March.

In its order the court also prohibited the holding of a sin-in in an unconstitutional way in Islamabad.
A three member bench of the LHC said the decision was taken to maintain the sanctity of Independence Day. The possibilities of chaos and uncertainty in the country were also taken into consideration.
Speaking to the media, the lawyer for the PTI clarified that the LHC had not stated that the long march was unconstitutional but rather prohibited the launching of marches and sit-ins in unconstitutional ways.
The LHC also upheld its decision to remove containers placed as blockades throughout Punjab. The provincial government had filed an appeal against this decision earlier.

According to PTI spokesperson Shireen Mazari, the LHC decision has no impact because holding Azadi March is her party’s constitutional and democratic right.
